Show not tell. Computers working

January 31, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today, the computers finally started working. We can work on our articles in class and not spend late nights working on our next draft.  The Japanese sure can make a good computer in there sweat shops. Using Microsoft Office ’07 is a vast improvement over the ’00 version.  They all have flat screens instead of the old school bubble television set. The screens can also rise and lower to fit anyone’s height.

No more Heroes preview (first draft)

January 31, 2008 · 1 Comment

No More Heroes is a action game for the Nintendo Wii. Its the first mature rated title exclusivly for the system, making it appelable to an older audiance. With a beam katana in your hand, the player slashes there way to the top.

Story: Travis Touchdown is an anime otaku (super fan) with a sausey mouth who like in the fictional town of Santa Destroy, California. He needs money to by video games so he be comes a killer for hire. After killing the 11th best assasin in the U.S., he takes his rank. He then decides to become number one. The games very well scripted, with good voice acting and diolouge. Travis really is the spotlight here with witty lines.

Gameplay: The game follows a very simple order. Do mineal tasks in the town, pay to participate in the ranked fights, fight a few lackies, and fight the assasin himself.  The amount requied to advance increases gredually for each rank you go up. The jobs to earn money are mini-games such as garbage collecting and pumping gas for cars. You can drive a motercycle. It is difficult to control at first but after a few hours, you will zip throu the town. The game is turned up a knotch be having you fight. They are incredably violent as heads roll and foundaints of blood shoot out conciquently. There is so much your would think u were watching Kill Bill 3. The fighting is definatly the most entertaining part of the game. To finish a enemy you filck the wii remote in the direction indicated on the screen. Doing so will activate a slot. If the the same icones appere, you enter a super mode where killing is even easier.

Dificulty- The game is not to chalenging as a whole but little sections are harder then others. The bosses may take a few tries but once you discover there battle plan there managable. Most have their own super ,and for one so far ,instant kill moves that almost or complytly empty you health.

Graphics- The graphics cirtenly dont push the hardware of the Wii to its limits, technologicly wise but it is syalized with cel-shaded caracters. They all do stand out in mostly bland invorments. Travis has a punk style to go with his atttitude. His clothes are interchangable and every shirt, pant, and belt look graphicly well on him.

Replay value- Havn’t finished game. will write when finished

Comments- This game is being well recived my critics but has not goten as much talk as kid friendly titles such as Super Mario or Legend of Zelda. Nintendo spent no money on a ad campain for tv only internet and magazines, so the main populise will not know about this game.  This game could convince the older gamers that the Wii is not just for kids and families.

Kirim Yalim was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He  is mix of Greek, Swedish, and  Turkish.  He specks Turkish and English. He attended high school (which lasts eleven years in Turkey) and spent one year in college studying architecture.  On October 12, 1991 , he flu to America a few days  after his birthday.  A pen pal of his, having moved from Turkey while in elementary school, built an interest to come to America.

After spending a year learning English, he then attended University of Florida. He then realized that his math skill were good so he switch his major to civil engineer. He soon changed again to programming because the Internet and computers were becoming more popular.

He started teaching at Barbra Goleman High School. He there for 6 years but realized the commute was to far from his house (on SOBE). He met English Teacher Jill Sepanek through a friend and told him there was an opening at Beach.

During school he failed a math class and he was depressed about it. His friends took him to see Rain Man. They bought the tickets, were walking across the street to get burgers, and a city bus hit him. He had lost skin on his face and he woke up next to his dad. Yalim stated ” ….and they still didn’t  pass me, I still failed the class even thou i got hit”.

He also pierced his ear like George Michael to imitate him. ” It was a cross, so it was very controversial Turkey being a Muslim country. ” said Yalim

He is not a big movie goer or an avid book reader. He does suggest everyone reads The end of Faith by Sam Harris. It reflects his ideas on religion and God. He also reads Newsweek a lot. ” I watch Troy to motivate me to hit the gym” Yalim said on his favourite movies.

His favourite restaurant is Outback Steakhouse

Final Draft: AP Students

November 26, 2007 · 1 Comment

At schools all over North America, AP students excel above the rest. The Advance Placement program was started in 1955 to provide high school students with college level classes. The classes have more challenge than normal or Honor classes. Rocio Lagos, a senior, ” My AP Biology class are much more difficult …We have to take the AP exam and a final as well.” If the classes are passed, they can count as entrance courses in college, thus saving the student money from tuition fees. During the springtime, students take exams based on the curriculum they received during the year. Colleges look at the tests and based the score (1-5, 5 being the best score), they will decide if the score is acceptable for skipping the class. The class is not failed if a student didn’t pass the AP exam. “We have to take the AP exam and a final as well.” stats Lagos.  The classes have a lot of variety with language, science and history. Each subject is divided into more sub-subjects such as art, European, and world history.  For passing the tests with high marks, the AP program awards students with titles.
